Episode 151: Images From Our Vancouver Book Crawl!

Back at it again! We simply love book shopping together, and we thought it would be fun to hop from shop to shop in Vancouver and take you guys along with us!

Massy Books, a fantastic little new & used shop with an upstairs packed with nonfiction and art books!

The amazing stairs we mentioned! Fun fact: Massy Books has an AMAZING collection of fiction and nonfiction by Indigenous authors.

Episode 102: Images From Our Trip To Chapters

Hi, friends!

We’re trying something special out today! In an attempt to bring everyone to the bookshop with us we took photos throughout our recording! Here they all are for you to enjoy. I don’t know why I tried numbering in the podcast because it was a spontaneous photo session and I quickly lost count, so here they are in order without numbers! - Ariel

It’s Chapters time, baby! We’re going in! This photo is a bit of a lie because we actually took it at the end but it felt like it should be the first image, haha.

These classics are always in Chapters! We don’t love the covers but we do love the prices!

Over the years Chapters has become more and more full of home goods. We don’t know how we feel about that.

More examples of the home goods type pretty stuff Chapters carries. It’s honestly always lovely things…

I deeply deeply regret not getting this ruler.

Mooncakes! By Weny Xu and Suzanne Walker! The first book we decided to both get… which cover do you like more? I did some reseach and it turns out the blue version is an edition made just for Chapters/Indigo!

Raeleen found this Die Hard Christmas book very funny, haha.

Rae spotted this cat book sleeve! Next to a copy of Bonnie Henry’s book, a person Rae and I know a lot about now because she’s the BC Health Minister and is in charge of the COVID response there!

Chapters always has really interesting tables and end caps. I think these forward facing end caps are brilliant.

How does everyone feel about the distinction between “Fiction” versus “Literature”?

A Beautifully Foolish Endeavour has incredible book flop, people! Plus my oven burn on my arm!

This looks suspiciously similar to Where The Crawdads Sings…

We didn’t love 100 Years of Solitude but wow is this beautiful.

I gave up holding my phone up so I’m using my book as a tray to record, haha.

Miriam Towes has a new book! We’re not fans of the cover…

If needed, Raeleen realized she could pretend she’s talking on the phone instead of awkwardly recording a podcast.

This cover! Outstanding! Raeleen wants it so badly. She was able to get it from the library but probably wont have enough time to read it because of travelling times and her due date.

I’m really interested in reading this one but I’m not a fan of the Canadian cover!

Genuinely one of the things I love the most about Chapters/Indigo that I WISH more bookshops would implement is computers! They have them sprinkled throughout the store and you can look up books to see what they have in stock. So helpful.

We’ve been learning more about memoirs so we made it over to the biographies section.

I absolutely ADORE this cover. I don’t know if I’d want to read much about Pablo Neruda but this cover is tempting me!

Screen Shot 2021-09-16 at 3.13.53 PM.png — Book covers in the memoirs/biographies section are so different! They have a real vibe that I’m not familiar with. So interesting how different genres have different design norms. I’m definitely a nerd about details like that.

I was very excited by this Cheryl Strayed boxset! SO CHEAP! We love Cheryl!

I would definitely read a Dolly Parton memoir or biography but this is a bit… giant…

We had to get this one. Our next memoir!
